Support the Challenge

As you may know, in recent years there has been a significant reduction in the number of secondary and tertiary students choosing to study the enabling sciences. As a result, Australia is suffering a critical shortage of professional scientists and engineers. This is a major issue for our future prosperity as a nation. In response to this declining interest in science and engineering, the Challenge was initiated in 2000 by the University of Newcastle . The Challenge has grown at an amazing rate and now it is a nation-wide program involving more than 10,000 students from 360 high schools in 2006.

The Challenge relies heavily on the financial support and volunteers from various organizations and companies in order to run the activities and support the students to complete their activities. The winning school will receive a trophy with sponsor 's name engraved on it and there is an opportunity to display a landmark banner at the auditorium in the Unicenter during the Challenge day.

The 2007 Challenge is widely covered by local media including Mercury, ABC Radio, University News, etc. If you are considering support the Challenge and engineering education in Australia , please contact Dr. Zengxi (Stephen) Pan at SECTE UoW.

Illawarra and South East Science and Engineering Challenge is presented by the University of Wollongong , The Rotary Club of Wollongong, the University of Newcastle in association with Engineers Australia and The Department of Education and Training.
