January 2005
- Two of our students (Ashley Carr and Karthic Rajaraman) completed their summer projects with PQRC.
Topics: Waveform generator upgrade study, Performance of tariff meters under fluctuating supply conditions
- Sankika Tennakoon returned after trialling a new programme where PhD students spend some time with
Integral Energy every year. This procedure has proved to be a real success, with a critical study of capacitor switching
impact on the Integral system being undertaken.
- Vic Gosbell was invited to give a talk on methodology of predicting power engineering
supply/demand at a Human Resources conference in July.
- Vic Gosball was invited to give keynote address at AUPEC 2005 in September.
Febraury 2005
- Duane Robinson attended a workshop on "Integrating wind into electricity grids" at UNSW
- Vic Gosbell gave an invited lecture on PQ standards at the residential school on power engineering held at UNSW
- Vic Gosbell gave an invited talk at EESA Power Engineering Manpower Seminar in Adelaide
- Vic Gosbell gave an invited talk at IBC Recruitment, Training and Retention for the Power Sector conference in
Sydney
March 2005
- Vic Gosbell presented a Power Engineering manpower requirements presentation in Sydney.
- Vic Gosbell attended Standards Australia Equipment Sag immunity Sub-committee.
- Vic Gosbell was invited speaker at an EESA Power Engineering Manpower Requirements Seminar in Perth.
- Vic Gosbell was invited speaker at EESA Forum Basslink & Beyond Seminar in Perth.
- Vic Gosbell & Robert Barr hosted a visit from Integral Energy & Energy Australia to report on the results of
the Long Term National Power Quality Survey (LTNPQS). A presentation on reliability was given on the same day by an ENA
representative from Energy Australia.
- IEPQRC has been invited to give prize-winning paper on air conditioners and their impact on the supply system
at the New Zealand Electric Energy Association Conference in Auckland, – Lianne Moller who carried out
the experimental work is to present the paper.
- The IEPQRC is to host the next CIGRE C4 Seminar and Meeting.
April 2005
- Prof. Vic Gosbell and Dr. Sarath Perera awarded Vice Chancellor's award for excellence in research
supervision.
May 2005
- Nomination for Prime Minister's Award (Longevity Category) was submitted for relationship between the University of Wollongong
and Integral Energy via the Power Quality and Reliability Centre.
- Prof. Vic Gosbell was invited to participate in Education Workshop at AUPEC in September 2005
- Prof. Vic Gosbell, Dr. Sarath Perera and Dr. Duane Robinson conducted a course for County Energy staff
on flicker and harmonic standards.
- A bid was submitted for the University of Wollongong to host the 13th ICHQP (International Conference Harmonics
and Quality of Power) in 2008.
July 2005
- CIGRE C4 (system technical performance) committee meeting and seminar ‘PQ developments in Australasia’ held at
University of Wollongong
- Vic Gosbell was invited to the joint Energy Australia/DEUS (Department of Energy, Utilities and Sustainability)
meeting to discuss the issue of equipment emission standards
August 2005
- Sarath Perera gave a seminar at Alberta University to its Power engineering group
about R & D activities of IEPQRC
- Sarath Perera visited Manitoba HVDC research centre to discuss the progress
on collaborative simulation projects
September 2005
- Vic Smith attended Australian Panel of CIGRE C6 in Perth
- Vic Gosbell, Duane Robinson, Sankika Tenakoon, Tim Browne and John Braun attended AUPEC 2005 in Hobart. Vic Gosbell
presented a key note address as well as a tutorial
- Scott Abbott, a university of wollongong student supervised by Dr Duane Robinson received the ACPE/API award for
thesis project for his work in relation to superconducting fault current application in distribution systems

- Vic Gosbell gave presentations at EESA Power Engineering Manpower Shortage seminars in Melbourne and Hobart
November 2005
- Vic Gosbell attended IEC WG8 meeting in London
- Vic Gosbell attended CIGRE-CIRED JWG C4.1.03 in London working on development of international PQ standards
- 2005 Standards Australia Award for outstanding service to standardization in the Building,
Utilities and Business sector awarded to Vic Gosbell
- Vic Gosbell awarded Conway Prize for best member paper at EESA annual conference for paper "Operational aspects of pfc
capacitors at zone substations" by Vic Gosbell, Sean Elphick, Sarath Perera and Neil Browne
